Boating on Swanbourne Lake

We have 15 rowing boats available for hire on the 
beautiful Swanbourne Lake here in Arundel West Sussex.

Boat availability can be viewed on our diary by clicking on this link updated daily (March - October)



BOOKING NOT REQUIRED
Boats will close for the season on the 30th October. We will look to reopen them again Mar 24 depending on weather.

Pricing & Hire detail's

£4 per adult

£3 per child (16 and under, under 2's go free)
Small dogs allowed free of charge


Hire duration 30 minutes. Longer can be booked if required


Card or cash accepted


We aim to have our boats out on the lake available for hire every weekend from early March through til Late October.


During school holidays we aim to have the boats open 7 days a week. 


Obviously opening is dependent on the weather & staff availability, therefore for the most up to date information please refer to our online  boat diary below.


Boats will open approx. 10:30 in the morning. This will depend on how long it takes us to clean the boats, overnight rain and a period of non use delays us!



The boats will close between 16:00 and 17:00 each day depending on footfall.

Under 16's must be accompanied by an adult.


Life Jackets available, recommended for those under 12

Boats are closed from the beginning of November until Mid March each year.

Before hiring a boat please be aware of our terms of hire


SWANBOURE LAKE ROWBOAT HIRE

Traditional family row boats are available for hire 7 days a week depending on season, weather conditions and staff availability.

During busy periods i.e. weekends & school holidays we always aim to have boats available out on the lake but as stated some things are out of our control influence our decision to open or close the boats without notice.

If you are travelling specifically to hire a boat we would always recommend you check our diary or call the Tearoom on 01903 884293 on the day of visit after 9:00am to confirm availability.


Bookings for schools, groups, clubs & wedding photos are available with 7-day notice and need to be booked to avoid disappointment, these are the only advanced bookings we accept.

 

General hire bookings are not required. 

 

All Boat hire is on a first come first served basis and does not have to be booked. Card or cash payments welcome.

Row Boats Seats up to 1 - 6 people depending on boat size. 

Cost- Card, Cash and Bank Transfer welcome for group pre booking

Prices - £4 per adult £3 per child (2 – 16 years old) for half hour

Life Jackets for all are available at no extra cost (T-shirts must be worn with these).

£10 deposit may be required but fully refunded once crafts returned in suitable condition.

Management, reserve the right to refuse hire to any person, as well as the right to recall individuals if inappropriate behavior occurs, any monies will not be refunded.


LAKE RULES


  • No smoking or drinking alcohol on the boats 
  • Stay within the boating area (Proceed no further than the roped area)
  • Respect the wildlife at all times, this is their home
  • Do not let other passengers on once you leave the quay side or leave
  • We recommend that a member of the group has access to a mobile phone should difficulty occur.

  • If you do not have a phone available and you need any help shout and wave or make another hirer aware so the safety boat can be alerted
  • Please return the boat to where you boarded 
  • Life jackets are free to borrow – please ask any member of staff 
  • Adults are responsible for children’s actions and welfare
  • Do not stand up in the top of the vessel (apart from boarding) – you risk falling in
  • Do not ram boats into each other
  • Please bring back on time
  • Please consider other people on the lake
  • Under no circumstances must you jump into the lake
  • Please take your litter with you when you leave
  • Any loud, abusive language or swearing on the lake, your time will be cut short and you will be asked to leave
  • If in doubt don’t go out – boat staff are here for your safety and are not here to tutor you
  • If you pay you agree to these rules 
  • Enjoy and have fun
  • Boat hire rules and regulations may change without notice and you must keep yourself aware of these on the website before hire use.
  • Keep all cameras, phones, keys, handbags and any other item with value close to your person at all times. Do not leave items on the edge of the boat or on the pier hand rails before boarding.


Please note: Any items left at the boat shed whilst hiring are entirely at owner’s risk.

Extra care should be taken when boarding and disembarking a boat. Always ensure that the boat is positioned next to the jetty and held in place by the boating staff. Beware of any trip hazards in and around the jetty you are switching from a wooden surface to an uneven surface.
